Shine a Light on Summer National Festival: Great Lighthouses of Ireland. May Bank Holiday Festival 2016 – ‘ a Light on Summer and Safety’ in Ballycotton
This Sunday 1st May as part of the national Great Lighthouses of Ireland National Summer Festival Ballycotton Island Lighthouse Tours are joining up with the Ballycotton Lifeboat crew at the Ballycotton Lifeboat house at Ballycotton pier to ‘Shine a Light on Summer and Safety‘. Between 2pm to 5pm this Sunday 1st May you are welcome to come and listen to stories about what life was like on Ballycotton Lighthouse with Eddie Fitzgerald, one of the Ballycotton Island Lighthouse Tour guides and ex Ballycotton Lighthouse Keeper. Meet other guides and hear their local stories and talk to members of the Ballycotton Lifeboat crew for tips on safety on our shoreline and at sea. The RNLI shop will be open, and tea and coffee will be served in the lifeboat house and weather permitting visitors will be invited to take a short trip in ‘Yassy’, the Ballycotton Island Lighthouse Tour ferry, from the pontoon into Ballycotton Bay. Throughout the weekend Saturday 30th April – Monday 2nd May 2016, the Shine a Light o Summer flagship festival is taking place across eight of the 12 Great Lighthouses of Ireland. Getting everyone into the summer spirit, delve into amazing coastal experiences, meet storykeepers and guides, enjoy maritime, craft and technology demonstrations while discovering the world of shipwrecks beneath the waves. For hundreds of years Irish lighthouses have helped seafarers find their way. Today, these stunning structures shine their light on a truly unique experience around the exquisite coastline of Ireland. Great Lighthouses of Ireland invites visitors and friends to an exciting May Bank Holiday Festival weekend brimming with family fun. With fantastic storytelling and captivating tours taking place in eight of our 12 iconic lighthouses along the Wild Atlantic Way, Ireland’s Ancient East and all the way up to Rathlin Island, a memorable, fun-filled weekend is in store.
