Pipers Union at The Ballymaloe Grainstore
May 8, 2016 @ 8:00 pm - 11:00 pm
Eur20 – Eur65The tight-knit trio sing and play an assortment of traditional and contemporary styles, from rousing ballads and soft love songs, to lively dance tunes and haunting airs. A rare evening of magic music, delivered with style, flair and fun.
Pipers Union combines three-part harmony song and instrumental arrangements using guitars, bouzouki, mandolin, uilleann pipes, flutes, fiddles and whistles to create a beautiful aural landscape.
Each of the three musicians have distinguished careers in their own right: David Power is heir apparent to uilleann pipe master, Liam O’Flynn, and he has toured extensively with Martin Hayes and Denis Cahill and ‘Masters of Tradition’. Ciaran Somers has just released a solo album. Dónal Clancy, long time member of Danu, is part of the ‘new story’ of the Clancy Brothers tradition.
“I had witnessed something rare – something special and unique. I had been present at one of those rare musical moments when three ‘Masters of the Tradition’ combined their artistry and weaved their spell of music and song with such soul and such passion as to make the event for me – and all who attended that night — an unforgettable one.” – PJ Curtis
